Every README and docs page checked against ousast --help, the code and the committed records. New docs/deployment.md (in the nav): what runs where today, this host's setup (up.sh, doctor, smoke Run, footprint), step-by-step guidance for a separate Kubernetes cluster with implemented vs planned stated per item (no cluster deployment has been made; kube context and doctor's registry check are hard-coded in doctor.py, egress.py, router.py), and what the plane/ manifests need changed. Decision-engine pages state slice 2 (six families, pooled and within-pair AUC, BLOCK offered nowhere, canary below 0.9 for three families, positives-only inflation) and that the engine is not adopted; exp-002 registered, not run, no result quoted. Fixed: model/judge.py reference (now model/pipeline.py), missing-key behaviour, .env reference (OPENROUTER_EMBEDDING_MODEL, store variables), docs extra, plane memory-normalise and ousast index listed, ax README's cluster table made precise. RELEASE_NOTES gets an Unreleased entry.

The plane's memory store no longer names one vendor. `MinioStore`/`SdkClient`/
`minio_settings`/`MINIO_KEYS` become `S3Store`/`S3Client`/`s3_settings`/`S3_KEYS`;
the URL scheme is `s3://<bucket>[/<prefix>]` (`s3://` alone uses `S3_BUCKET`); the
settings are `S3_ENDPOINT` (a full URL), `AWS_ACCESS_KEY_ID`, `AWS_SECRET_ACCESS_KEY`,
optional `AWS_SESSION_TOKEN` and `S3_REGION`. The client is boto3 (extra `s3`,
imported lazily): SigV4, path-style addressing, SDK checksum trailers off, paginated
listing, versions and delete markers listed and deleted by version (`purge`, used by
the contract tests' teardown so the bucket keeps nothing of a run).
Behaviour is unchanged: the store never configures its bucket and verifies
versioning, the `runs/` expiry rule, S3 Select and tag reads at startup; no local
fallback; every row carries every queryable field with "" placeholders. The admin
hints read `--endpoint-url "$S3_ENDPOINT"`. The fake client still reproduces RustFS's
two Select failures (unbound leading-row field, null-typed column).
Docs: rustfs.md stays the tested server's setup page (policy JSON unchanged, env
names updated, any S3-compatible store with versioning, lifecycle, tags and Select
works); memory.md, ops/ax/README.md, README.md, steering and the two current spec
designs use the S3 naming. Retired specs and committed measurements are untouched.
Real server (RustFS, OUSAST_MEMORY_TEST_S3=1): test_plane_memory + test_learn_compile
75 passed, 1 skipped. Store copy of the live local store to a temporary prefix: every
count matched (776 row objects, 2982 rows, 22 facts, 788 excerpts, 2601 responses,
2 programs, 1793 index entries), 4190 versions purged afterwards.

RustFS's S3 Select infers an object's schema from its first 1000 rows: a where
field absent there is unbound (EvaluatorBindingDoesNotExist), and a column null
in all of them but set later fails the whole object (JSONParsingError, measured:
999 leading nulls answer, 1000 fail). plane/memory.py now declares per kind the
fields a where may name (QUERY_FIELDS: facts candidates_digest, verdict
candidate/final, example profile, plus the ROW_FIELDS every row has) and writes
their union on every row at write time as strings, "" where one does not apply
(null measured to break). rows() refuses an unknown kind, an undeclared where
field and where = null before any read. `ousast plane memory-normalise
[--store URL] [--dry-run]` rewrites pre-rule rows once, idempotently, with
counts. The fake object client mimics both RustFS failures.

Maintainer decisions 2026-10-02: "it has the featurs. fallback not desired" and
"Admin sets it once; agent verifies".
- MinioStore never configures its bucket: configure()/enable_versioning()/
expire() are gone; the client protocol only reads versioning and lifecycle.
- verify_bucket() runs when a MinioStore is opened (once per process per
store): versioning Enabled, an enabled lifecycle rule expiring <prefix>/runs/
(none expiring the whole store), S3 Select answering a probe, object tags
readable. Every missing piece is listed in one MemoryStoreError with the
aws-cli admin command or the permission to grant.
- No S3 Select fallback: a server without Select is refused at open, and a
failing Select on one object raises (naming RustFS's leading-row schema
inference when the field is unbound) instead of filtering locally.
- MINIO_REGION is passed through when set.
- Tests: fakes for versioning off/unreadable, lifecycle missing/disabled/
tag-narrowed/whole-store, Select missing, tags unreadable, and the pass case;
the real-server contract uses OUSAST_MEMORY_TEST_BUCKET (else MINIO_BUCKET)
and never writes bucket configuration.
- ops/ax/README.md: RustFS support, the admin one-time setup, the agent policy.

`ousast plane harvest` (plane/harvest.py) writes two Runs over a label snapshot:
verify a/b + agree on the verify-family units (both sides of each labelled pair as
an opaque files-only Workspace, candidates outside the hunt's root, no declared
sites; v1 and dev-php pins with repo-facts first) and model roles on the candidate
files (pair excerpts grouped, one Task per population pin). Budgets sum under the
ceiling by construction. New roles task template; the generator re-pins it.
Spent by attribution: verify $2.54 (1961 calls, 150 units, 182 hunts per pass),
roles $1.40 (1034 calls, 799 files, 0 unclassified chunks); DeepSeek balance
19.63 -> 18.23. Engine on the pair corpus (benchmarks/learn/engine_pairs.py,
frozen e6ed785, one 3g container) is PARTIAL: 384 of 686 sides at commit, still
running; unfinished sides stay missing. benchmarks/learn/build_features.py built
1712 static+plane records into the memory store; counts-only record under
benchmarks/measurements/2026-10-01-decision-engine-harvest/.
source/roles parts are `none`, not `failed`, for a language without a declaration
pattern (C). ops/ax/README: Substrate golden-actor disk leak and the inline
Workspace limit (~20 KB).

The end-to-end smoke Run finished done on the local ax: submit, egress policy,
resume, router start, repo-facts in gVisor, artifacts delivered through the
egress gateway, attribution table printed, task and policy cleaned up.

Agent Substrate's egress gateway denies an actor without an EgressPolicy, so
no task could deliver its artifacts or reach a model. egress.py grants each
task exactly: http/80 to ousast-receiver.ax-system.svc.cluster.local, and
TLS passthrough/443 to the bound Workspaces' https Git hosts and the bound
Model's openultrasast.io/egress-hosts (api.deepseek.com for deepseek-flash).
No IPs, no wildcards, no https (MITM) rules.
The reconciler writes the policy with kubectl-ate between ax apply and
resume, reads it back, waits OUSAST_EGRESS_SETTLE (11 s, the gateway's
cached deny), and after ax delete task confirms the policy went with its
actor (kubectl-ate has no delete verb; the store cascades).
The receiver is a selector-less Service (ops/ax/receiver-service.yaml.tmpl,
applied by up.sh together with the no-build agentgateway egress gateway)
on port 18090 of the host. Measured live: the gateway checks the policy on
Host but connects to the address the actor dialled, so the runner dials the
Service's ClusterIP (OUSAST_ARTIFACT_DIAL) with the receiver's name as Host.
The runner now labels its delivery with the Run's task name (OUSAST_TASK),
which is what the receiver accepts; the ax Task name was refused with 403.
The Receiver moved to egress.py to keep reconciler.py at 460 lines.

On the live cluster ax created the Task before its Workspace in the same apply
and the runner saw an empty AX_WORKSPACES_YAML. Tests now find rendered
documents by kind and name, not position. ops/ax/smoke-run.sh renders a
model-free repo-facts Run with the current runner digest and executes it
through the reconciler.

On the live cluster ax hands AX_TASK_YAML with metadata.creationTimestamp and a
status block; the strict authoring schema rejected it, readiness never turned
green and every resume timed out. Other unknown fields still fail. up.sh retries
the first resume while the golden snapshot builds.

Substrate installs no WorkerPool (resume failed: no free workers) and rejects
images not pinned by digest; ax's default runner image on gcr.io needs
credentials, so the smoke task runs our runner (repo-facts over a one-file
workspace). A release ax CLI skewed from the server (UpdateTask unimplemented).

kind cluster + registry, Agent Substrate, ax control plane via ko, one files-only
smoke Task; helpers run from their own checkout because they resolve paths from
the git toplevel. Footprint and README follow once the cluster is up.

ousast scan src/api
The container becomes an implementation detail. The engine is a JVM and ~2 GB
of Joern, and a contributor evaluating this tool should not have to install
either to try it -- what they get is a command.
Path rewriting is what makes it feel local: arguments under the working
directory are mapped to their mounted equivalents, so `src/api` means what the
user expects. Anything outside the mount is passed through unchanged WITH A
WARNING rather than silently rewritten into a path the container cannot see --
a wrong path that looks like it worked is worse than one that complains.
A native install wins when it is present. Someone who installed Joern
deliberately should not be quietly routed through a container, so the wrapper
uses a local joern-parse and venv when both exist; OUSAST_PREFER_NATIVE=0
forces the container. Verified end to end from an unrelated directory.
The image builds itself on first use and says why it is pausing. A first run
that prints a wall of build output and then works is worse than one that
explains itself.
Defaults stay conservative: the working directory mounts READ-ONLY, findings go
to ./.ousast as the only writable mount, and the network is off unless
`ousast-with-judge` asks for it.

A contributor should be able to run this with nothing installed but Docker:
docker compose build
TARGET=/path/to/repo docker compose run --rm ousast scan /target
One image rather than two services, and the reason is the seam. The model
layer reaches Joern by subprocess; putting both in the same image means Joern
is simply on PATH, so there is no container-to-container call, no docker socket
to mount, no host/container path translation, and no second code path in
cpg/backend.py to get wrong. Sibling services would need the tool to exec into
the engine's container, which means handing a linter the docker socket -- a
large amount of privilege for something that reads source code. The image is
big (a JRE plus ~2 GB of Joern); that is the honest cost of bundling an engine.
I had started building the two-service version with a docker-wrapper mode in
the backend and dropped it, tests included: once the engine is on PATH the
wrapper is complexity with no purpose.
Defaults chosen so an unfamiliar analyser is safe to try: the target mounts
READ-ONLY, /work is a tmpfs so CPG scratch never outlives the run or touches
the host, network_mode is `none` unless the LLM judge is wanted, and API keys
pass through the environment rather than into an image layer. mem_limit is set
because two Joern JVMs at once is what triggered an out-of-memory kill on a
7.7 GB machine during this feature's measurements.
pyinfra deploy kept for persistent host installs, with the same version pin and
the same checksum verification -- done as an explicit `sha512sum -c` step
because pyinfra's files.download offers sha384/sha256/sha1/md5 and Joern
publishes sha512. That mismatch was caught by validating against the installed
pyinfra rather than trusting the API from memory.
Both include php-cli: php2cpg drives PHP-Parser and shells out to a real
interpreter, and without it a PHP tree fails with an opaque "Process exited
with code 1" -- measured here, which is what makes a WordPress corpus feasible.
