Task 3.2. Each obligation finding prints its operation, the missing discharger
with the provenance that failed, the evidence behind the label, the known fix
learned from the corpus and the hunter's intent verdict; the Obligations section
lists the sibling sets evaluated and the declared policy version. SARIF carries
the same as properties.
Obligation findings rank by resource sensitivity times label weight, declared
above consistency above function-local, and stay strictly below every proven
finding. Proof rungs live on verdicts rather than on static findings, so the
cap takes the proven ids from the run's triggerable verdicts.

Task 3.1. The obligations proposer runs after variant search in standard and
deep scans, reads the declared policy from the target, and never writes it.
Its findings are appended after every other finding and never enter the sandbox
candidate set. The manifest block carries the sibling sets, the under-populated
count, the operations examined, the findings by label, the policy version, the
stage degradations, and the sibling sets themselves.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01T7XD7x5KonMdmGRkp63EQG
Task 2.5. An obligated operation that is reached and has no dominating
discharger is reported at suspicion, labeled by why the obligation exists:
a declared policy clause, the practice of sibling handlers, or, in the degraded
no-path mode, the operation fact alone. With path records and neither a clause
nor a sibling norm nothing justifies the obligation and nothing is reported.
A declared public route waives the path guard wherever it is required, not only
where siblings practice it (Req 4.4). A malformed store row is recorded as a
degradation naming the record instead of being skipped silently.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01T7XD7x5KonMdmGRkp63EQG
Task 2.2. Handlers on the same resource under the same module are siblings;
when at least min_siblings of them discharge an obligation and one does not,
that one is the anomaly and the discharging siblings are its evidence (Req 3.2).
A set with fewer members than the minimum is under-populated and never reported
(Req 3.3). A public route among authenticated siblings is a missing path guard
with the mapper's access classification as evidence (Req 3.4).
The sibling key is the module path without its suffix, so two same-named files
in different directories are never merged. Witness validity (an identity
constraint counts only when it binds the authenticated context) is one helper
shared by operations, siblings and the checker.

Task 2.4 (Req 5.1, 5.2). Decorator and router witnesses dominate the
handler; a constraint or a non-permissive value dominates the operation
it sits on; a guard call before the operation dominates by contract;
other statement witnesses need an early exit between them and the
operation; along a path record an earlier hop dominates. Guard dominance
replaces the implementation behind the same protocol later.

Task 2.3 (Req 4.1, 4.2). load_declared_policy: closed top-level,
resource and route fields; access public|authenticated|role; identity
source restricted to the facts' authenticated-context sources; comment-
stripped version hash; trailing-* route globs; unknown fields and values
rejected by name; the tool never writes the file.

Task 2.1 (Req 3.1, 5.4). find_operations, find_discharges (decorators,
guard and check calls, identity constraints with their provenance,
non-permissive settings) and covers; chained call sites deduped; the
resource token is the receiver head, the fact's resource argument, or a
SQL table name.

Task 1.3 (Req 2.1, 2.2, 2.4).
- seed.pair_lessons derives obligation shapes for absence-mechanism rows
and falls back to the sink shape when no obligation is learned, so the
flow store is unchanged; skip reasons name the accepted dischargers.
- append_from_pair accepts both shape families (guard carries the
discharger kind); search_tree ignores obligation rows;
obligation_mechanisms selects them.
- Measured on vibe-py: the two vampi pairs seed protected_read /
identity_constraint / authenticated_context.

Task 1.2 (Req 2.1, 2.3, 2.5).
- semantic/obligations/shapes.py: ObligationShape (family obligation,
text-free key), derive_obligation and explain_skip. The lesson is any
discharged operation of the target's walker-visible kind, fixed side
first and then the vulnerable function's own safe branch, since
Real-Vuln twins are flag-toggled identical functions or unrelated trap
functions; keyword constraints are read from the call's source line
(positional-only IR call sites); an identity constraint bound from the
request or a constant discharges nothing.

Six task groups in the design's migration order: closed facts and
obligation shapes; operations, siblings, declared policy, dominance
protocol and the checker; MAP wiring, reports, ranking and hunter intent;
corpus harvest mode, labels, leave-one-out and relabeling; the
obligations lever; validation. All 44 acceptance criteria covered; no
task waits on the unimplemented upstream specs (path-aware evaluation
enters through the Dominance protocol and an optional PathRecord input).

Requirements approved by the maintainer in session. Design: closed
obligation facts (operations and dischargers), obligation shapes as a
second family in the mechanism store, sibling-set consistency and an
optional declared policy as the policy sources, a Dominance protocol
with an order-based default so the checker works function-local before
reachability and guard dominance land, findings at suspicion carrying
consistency_violation / declared_policy_violation / function_local as
data, reports, manifest and ranking fields, handler_context harvest
mode, leave-one-out per obligation kind, and an obligations lever with
pending policy clauses under the existing gate. All 44 acceptance
criteria traced.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01T7XD7x5KonMdmGRkp63EQG
Absence bugs as obligations rather than flows: obligated operations and
discharger kinds as closed facts, obligation shapes learned from trusted
pairs, the application's policy recovered from sibling-handler
consistency and an optional declared policy file, path-aware evaluation
with a function-local degraded mode, honest rungs below proof, an
`obligations` improve lever under the holdout gate. Depends on
reachability-flow-model and guard-dominance-regime; the roadmap marks
reachability as the critical path for two consumers.

- tasks.md: all tasks checked; rounds 1-6 recorded with RED evidence,
measured leave-one-out and admission numbers, and the recorded design
deviations.
- spec.json: completed 2026-09-05.
- roadmap: corpus-seeded-mechanisms marked completed; the loop is closed
end to end (export -> improve admits under the holdout clause -> scan
searches -> reports name the mechanism).

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01T7XD7x5KonMdmGRkp63EQG
Review rounds 3-5 remediations (Req 5, 7).
- ousast improve resolves candidates from the target's calibration dir,
then the working directory's (where `mechanisms export` writes), and
admits into <target>/.openultrasast/calibration/mechanisms.jsonl,
where a scan of that target reads; --mechanism-candidates,
--mechanism-store, --no-mechanisms; --dry-run redirects the store to
scratch; accepted rounds print admit/retract <id>.
- run_improvement threads the store paths; RoundOutcome carries the
mechanism edits; reverted mechanism keys are blocked outright; a
no-gain admission is rejected as mechanism_no_gain; a retraction may
name an admitted record that left the candidate set.
- leave-one-out forwards variant-search degradations and pins the
containment and label rules; mechanisms export defaults to the
candidates file so it never re-admits a tombstone.
- design §Lever rewritten to the implemented gate; README and docs show
export -> improve -> scan.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01T7XD7x5KonMdmGRkp63EQG
Task 5.1 (Req 6.1, 6.3).
- reports.py: the markdown and SARIF writers take the mechanisms a run
cites; a finding cites one through its mechanism:<id> tag (variant) or
its merged overlay record's mechanism_id; markdown shows Mechanism,
Known fix guard and Learned from pairs per finding plus a Mechanisms
section, SARIF properties carry mechanism_id/summary/guard/pairs;
variant findings keep suspicion, merged inventory findings keep their
own evidence level; reports without mechanisms are unchanged.
- cli: _search_variants returns the cited mechanisms from the store and
the scan passes them to both writers.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01T7XD7x5KonMdmGRkp63EQG
Task 4.2 (Req 5.3, 5.4, 5.5).
- propose_mechanism_edits: retract admitted records that leak on a
holdout fixed side; admit a candidate only when a trial store holding
it alone recovers a currently missed holdout pair without leaking.
- run_round(mechanism_candidates=, mechanism_store=): validates, applies
after the rule gate passed, re-scores the holdout pairs per profile with
variant search (evaluate_mechanism_profiles), and rejects with a
byte-for-byte revert on mechanism_leak, profile_regression or
mechanism_no_gain; the journal records each mechanism edit with its
pair provenance and the metrics before and after.
- The rule gate and its per-profile clause are unchanged.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01T7XD7x5KonMdmGRkp63EQG
Task 4.1 (Req 5.1, 5.2, 5.5).
- validator: MechanismEdit (admit | retract by record id) under the
`mechanisms` lever; validate_mechanism accepts only records from the
exporter candidate set with origin corpus, a closed guard and source
kinds, and identifier-only shape text; free-form shapes are rejected.
- apply_mechanism_edits appends the record (admit) or a retracted
tombstone (retract) so the log stays append-only; StoreSnapshot.restore
reverts byte for byte. MechanismStore.load folds tombstones away.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01T7XD7x5KonMdmGRkp63EQG
Task 3.1 (Req 4.1-4.4).
- semantic/loo.py: every scorable pair is held out once; a temporary
store is seeded from the other seeded/reviewed pairs (advisory and
title pairs are scored as targets, never teach; known_limit skipped);
both excerpts are searched for variants and scored with the pair rules
(detected inside the labeled function naming the labeled mechanism or
sink; silent when the fixed side yields no hit); found_by and leaked_by
name the records and the pairs that taught them; metrics per slice,
profile and mechanism; score_pair_with_store is shared with the lever.
- cli: `pairs --slice S --loo [--loo-out P]` writes loo.json; never a gate.
- First measurement: vibe-py 35 pairs, 11 detected, 21 silent, Youden
-0.086, 16 teaching pairs.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5.1 <[email protected]>
Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01T7XD7x5KonMdmGRkp63EQG
- variant_search.search_tree skips a malformed store row with a
variants_store_row_invalid degradation instead of aborting the scan;
a hit on a demoted or flowless overlay record is never merged (test).
- seed.pair_lessons is the one shape derivation shared by the exporter
and leave-one-out; labels pass line and sink together; pairs without a
labeled function are reported as no_labeled_function.
- config parses [variants].max_mechanisms with the shared int helper.
- regress.candidate.hotspot_from_finding is the one zero-score hotspot
helper for forced inventory and variant findings.
- design synced (SearchResult, hits_to_findings summaries, candidate.py).

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01T7XD7x5KonMdmGRkp63EQG
Task 2.3 (Req 3.4, 3.5, 3.6, 6.2).
- [variants] enabled / max_mechanisms config; MAP runs variant search
after the overlay in standard and deep scans only, appends the variant
findings, rewrites overlay.json with merged ids, and the manifest
records mechanisms_searched, files_searched, findings and
merged_into_overlay.
- REGRESS: variant findings join the candidate list after the promotions
as zero-score hotspots, under the existing safety check and cap.
- Spec notes for group 2 and the design synced (variant_search.py,
seed.py, derive_shape signature).

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01T7XD7x5KonMdmGRkp63EQG
Task 2.2 (Req 3.1-3.3, 3.6).
- variants.match_shapes: call sites whose trailing callee name and arity
match a shape and whose source positions all carry a source of any
kind; constants and arity mismatches never match.
- semantic/variant_search.py: search_tree over a tree's parsed files with
the store's corpus shapes (bounded by max_mechanisms, language
degradations recorded); hits_to_findings merges a hit into an overlay
promote/coverage record at the same call site (mechanism_id, no
duplicate) and otherwise emits variant:<id>:<path>:<line> at suspicion
with the pair provenance in the rationale.
- OverlayRecord.mechanism_id (additive).

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01T7XD7x5KonMdmGRkp63EQG
Task 2.1 (Req 1.1, 1.2, 1.5, 2.5).
- semantic/seed.py: export_mechanisms seeds only seeded/reviewed,
non-known-limit, parsing pairs with cached excerpts; every skip carries
a reason (tier, known_limit, parse_failed, language unsupported with a
degradation, pointer not cached, no labeled sink call site); runs
offline over the vendored catalog.
- variants.derive_shape: labels that name only a function and a mechanism
resolve to the fact-sink call inside that function (CWE match and a
non-constant argument first); line and sink intersect when both exist;
container reads are subscript or .get( only.
- append_from_pair keeps the strongest review tier and accumulates
provenance tags when a shape is re-seeded.
- CLI: `ousast mechanisms export --slice S [--store P] [--json]`.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01T7XD7x5KonMdmGRkp63EQG
Task 1.2 (Req 1.3, 1.4).
- Mechanism gains origin, review_tier, pairs, shape, guard with defaults;
rows written before this spec load unchanged.
- MechanismStore.load folds the append-only log by id (latest row wins)
so a re-seeded shape carries every pair that taught it.
- append_from_pair writes origin=corpus rows with a deterministic id
derived from the shape key; corpus_mechanisms selects searchable rows.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01T7XD7x5KonMdmGRkp63EQG
Task 1.1 (Req 2.1-2.4). Spec approved by the maintainer in session.
- semantic/variants.py: Shape (language, sink trailing name, arity,
source positions and kinds, closed guard kind, mechanism id) with a
stable text-free key; derive_shape finds the labeled sink call site in
the vulnerable FileIR, traces argument identifiers through binds to a
fact source, a parameter or a container read, and classifies the guard
the fixed side added from the labeled function's added statements
against a closed set (none when unknown). No path, line or literal
enters a shape; a constant-only call teaches nothing.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01T7XD7x5KonMdmGRkp63EQG
- tasks.md: round-12 verdict and the decision to assemble the redaction
test's example key at runtime and rewrite the unpushed series so no
commit carries a contiguous key literal; two dated notes marked as
superseded by tasks 8.1 and 8.4.
- roadmap: the folded inventory-vs-overlay Youden item is checked.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01T7XD7x5KonMdmGRkp63EQG
- tasks.md: all tasks checked; the two escalations are closed (5.1 by the
Req 10 pointer rows, 5.3 by the Req 9 review tiers); round 11 recorded
with the carry-forwards for corpus-seeded-mechanisms and
overlay-ir-completeness.
- roadmap: measured state after tiers and pointer slices (vibe-py 115,
agent-vfc 59, gates byte-identical to pre-spec); pair-corpus-honesty
marked completed.
- spec.json: completed 2026-09-05 after eleven review rounds.

Task 8.4 (Req 10.6, 5.1).
- harvest.merge_recipes appends recipes by name and never rewrites
existing rows.
- vibe-py/build_recipes.py --pointers: the 40 LLM-generated repositories
without a license become vendored = false rows (80 pairs, agent,
seeded) appended to recipes.toml; unlicensed human repos stay skipped.
- agent-vfc/build_recipes.py --from ... --pointers [--cache]: unlicensed
agent-authored fixes become title-tier pointer rows whose function
label is derived from the cached excerpt (30 added from a fresh
662-candidate search); TOML booleans rendered correctly.
- catalogs regenerated: vibe-py 115 rows (35 vendored + 80 pointer),
agent-vfc 59 (29 + 30); no excerpt is vendored for any pointer row.
- `pairs --slice vibe-py --pointers` scores both provenances (human 35,
agent 80); the default run skips 80 pairs with pointer_pair_skipped;
suite and gates unchanged. README/docs name the nightly command.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01T7XD7x5KonMdmGRkp63EQG
Task 8.3 (Req 10.1-10.5).
- pairs.py: catalog rows with vendored = false carry their harvest recipe
and no excerpts; evaluate_catalog harvests them into
OPENULTRASAST_PAIR_CACHE (default ~/.cache/openultrasast/pairs) only
when `pairs --pointers` or OPENULTRASAST_PAIRS_NETWORK=1 allows the
network, otherwise records pointer_pair_skipped (a failed fetch is
pointer_pair_fetch_failed with detail); a warm cache never scores
without the switch. select_vendored for tests and gates.
- harvest.py: materialize_pointer harvests into the cache without the
license requirement (nothing is redistributed); redaction applies.
- catalog_gen.py: emits pointer rows with recipe fields; training
manifests skip them.
- pair_gate and improve/evolve.evaluate_profiles score vendored pairs
only; cli `pairs --pointers`; .gitignore covers the cache path.
- tests: loader, skip/degradation, cache hit, fetch failure, warm cache
with network off, profile gate exclusion, harvest and generator paths;
conftest keeps every test offline whatever the shell exports.

Two engine specs drafted after the pair-corpus baseline, awaiting owner
approval before implementation:
- corpus-seeded-mechanisms: structural shapes derived from trusted pairs,
export, variant search merged with overlay flows, leave-one-out
measurement, and a closed `mechanisms` lever for the improve loop.
- reachability-flow-model: call graph over FunctionIR, reachability from
entry points to sinks, hunter client preferring HarnessX (task 4.1b).

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01T7XD7x5KonMdmGRkp63EQG
Task 8.2 (Req 9.3).
- improve/evolve.py: evaluate_profiles filters holdout pairs to
GATING_TIERS before computing per-profile metrics, so advisory and
title pairs are scored by `pairs` but never gate a round; a regression
on reviewed pairs still rejects with profile_regression:<profile>.
- tests: a regression confined to title pairs is accepted; the same
regression on reviewed pairs is rejected and the title pairs are
excluded from the gated profile rather than outvoted.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01T7XD7x5KonMdmGRkp63EQG
Tasks 8.1, 7.1 (tests) and the re-scoped 5.3.
- pairs.py: review_tier in {seeded, advisory, title, reviewed} with
per-slice defaults (local reviewed, vibe-py seeded, sast/vfc/vfc-js/
github advisory, agent-vfc title); reviewer = "pending" means title, a
named reviewer means reviewed, reviewed without a reviewer is rejected;
per_tier metrics in the payload; select_tier and GATING_TIERS for the
improve loop.
- catalog_gen.py: stamps review_tier (and reviewer) on every generated
row and training manifest row; title rows enter catalog.toml; the
catalog-candidates.toml queue is retired; precedence matches the loader.
- agent-vfc: 29 title-tier rows load and score (0/29, Youden 0.0, the
honest unreviewed baseline); local rows name their reviewer.
- Tests: tier defaults, loader rejections, per_tier payload, the Req 8.1
catalog-on-disk / stage-1 exclusion proof and per-slice CLI checks.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01T7XD7x5KonMdmGRkp63EQG
Task 6.3.
- improve/evolve.py: evaluate_profiles and profile_regressions score the
holdout pair split per provenance profile every round; a drop in pair
pass rate or Youden beyond --profile-tolerance rejects the round with
reason profile_regression:<profile>; profiles under
--min-holdout-pairs are reported, not gated; journal records both.
- cli improve: --pair-catalog, --no-pair-gate, --profile-tolerance,
--min-holdout-pairs; a missing catalog fails loud instead of skipping
the gate.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01T7XD7x5KonMdmGRkp63EQG
Task 6.1.
- provenance.py: classify a checkout as human / agent / mixed / unknown
from deterministic signals only (.claude/, AGENTS.md, Lovable meta,
agent git trailers on a bounded commit sample); no model involved.
- cli scan runs a `provenance` stage; the manifest records the result.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01T7XD7x5KonMdmGRkp63EQG
Tasks 1.2, 2.1-2.5 and 6.2 (pair-side filters).
- pairs.py: coverage with a source counts as detection and as leak;
function-scoped matching by line-range containment from the vulnerable
side's parse (unresolvable labels are counted loss, never silent
misses); exact or alias sink matching; weak CWE-only labels never match;
side-by-side inventory/overlay/hunter scorers; per_profile,
per_mechanism, achievable, known_limit and loss payload; loader rejects
unknown mechanism/provenance/split and reserved or missing function
labels on harvested slices; candidate rulesets thread through for the
improve loop.
- overlay.py: OverlayRecord.function (additive) filled from the shared
naming helper in one parse; benchmark.py: ExpectedFinding.mechanism.
- cli pairs: --slice over every slice, --profile, --split, --hunter,
--hunter-model.
- catalogs migrated to the new schema (provenance, split, function,
mechanism, known_limit for owasp-java-hash); baseline recorded in the
spec notes.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01T7XD7x5KonMdmGRkp63EQG
Tasks 1.1, 5.1, 5.2, 5.4 and the data half of 5.3.
- mechanisms.toml: closed vocabulary v1 (20 ids) every expected row cites.
- vibe-py: 35 Real-Vuln-Benchmark pairs (Apache-2.0), human provenance only
because the LLM-generated repositories carry no license (escalated).
- vfc-js: 17 Node fix-commit pairs harvested upstream (MIT/Apache-2.0),
SecBench.js itself is not vendored (no license); sinks derived on 13/17.
- agent-vfc: 29 agent-trailer fixes as catalog-candidates.toml plus
REVIEW.md; the loaded catalog stays empty until a human reviews them.
- datasets.toml and README document every slice and its review status.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01T7XD7x5KonMdmGRkp63EQG
Tasks 3.3 and 4.1.
- vfc curl and openssl-cve-2021-3449 excerpts re-harvested through the
shared library: whole functions with upstream_start headers, the
vendored key redacted code-safely, no truncated bodies.
- vfc/recipes.toml carries mode, fix_path and function anchors;
training/manifest.jsonl regenerated.
- Juliet CWE-121 strcpy pair gets its buffer declarations back so the
vulnerable side is a real overflow again.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01T7XD7x5KonMdmGRkp63EQG
Tasks 3.1, 3.2 (harvest library) and the Scorer-owned naming helper.
- semantic/functions.py: one source of function names for scorer, overlay
and catalog generator (declarator wins over parser name; JS/TS bare-param
arrows and undeclared methods are <anon>; C++ Class::method resolves to
its unqualified tail; Perl sub; statements never name).
- benchmarks/pairs/harvest.py: shared library with name / line_range /
hunk / enclosing modes, comment-blind masking (triple-quote aware),
upstream_start headers, code-safe quoted-only redaction.
- benchmarks/pairs/catalog_gen.py: derive function labels and sinks from
the declarator at the mapped sink location, CWE-family sink tokens,
--prune with refusal when nothing derived, fails loud without the
package; vfc/harvest.py and vfc/generate_catalog.py become shims.
- tests/test_pair_harvest.py replaces test_vfc_harvest.py.

Harvest 176 isolated vuln-vs-fix functions (109 CVEs, 352 training rows)
into benchmarks/pairs/vfc with provenance and a JSONL training manifest.
Score the slice as an honesty dashboard (ousast pairs --slice vfc);
keep the pair gate on the local fixtures only.
Add openultrasast[semantic] with official grammar wheels and one CST walker
into FileIR. quick stays extra-free. Host CLI is not overlay-ready. Default CI
stays extra-free; a semantic job runs pytest -m semantic.
Stdlib parser only; pytest skips it so tests cannot pick up a developer key.
The embedding model is openai/text-embedding-3-small via OpenRouter /embeddings.
Regex inventory stays the proposer. MAP attaches promote/demote/unadjudicated/coverage
from intra-file taint (tree-sitter when a grammar parses, Python ast as last resort).
Deep sandboxes promotions only, ordered by the existing heuristic ranker plus optional
OpenRouter mechanism recall. The SAST pair slice scores overlay outcomes; the stage-1
detection gate and local pair gate stay inventory-only.
Replace the hardcoded skill-name stub with a real, routable skill index.
- skills.py (zero-dep): SkillDescriptor inventory (~22 ToB skills with routing
metadata — languages, tags, vulnerability classes, stages — plus a short operating
checklist each), aligned with the spec's routing examples. route_skills scores by
vulnerability-class/tag/stage signal with a language filter+bonus, and never selects
on a pure language match. route_skills_for_target derives vuln classes from tags;
select_skill_context packs checklists into a char budget; skill_chunks chunks the
guidance into the `skills` retrieval namespace.
- hunter.select_skill_snippets now delegates to the router (existing C-memory and
crypto+auth routing expectations preserved).
- hunter_harness._describe feeds the budget-capped routed skill context into the
HarnessX hunter prompt (the genuine consumer of skill_budget_chars).
- 8.4 zero-dep guard extended to cover skills.py.
tests/test_skills.py (9 tests: C parser → memory/fuzzing, crypto → constant-time/
vector, language-mismatch + language-only exclusion, stage filtering, budget cap,
namespace chunking). openrouter-sast-harness Phase 14 checked off.

A zero-dependency MCP server over stdio (newline-delimited JSON-RPC 2.0) for
OpenCode/IDE integration, exposing only stable project-level operations.
- mcp.py: McpServer (pure handle() dispatch) + serve() stdio loop, stdlib-only.
Ten tools: openultrasast.scan/status/findings/get_finding/evidence/artifacts/
benchmark/explain/propose_patch/export_report. scan/benchmark run the bounded
analysis pipeline; NO tool accepts a free-form command — no shell, Docker, or
internal hunter tools are exposed. propose_patch degrades visibly (patch oracle
is a later phase). initialize/tools/list/tools/call/ping handled; notifications
get no response; errors surface as JSON-RPC errors instead of crashing the loop.
- cli: `ousast mcp` subcommand launches the stdio server (lazy import → keeps the
mcp↔cli cycle one-directional).
- tests/test_mcp.py: tool listing is exactly the narrow surface, surface-safety
(no shell/exec/command tool), scan→status→findings→explain→evidence flow,
export_report, propose_patch degradation, and the stdio loop round-trip.
- README "MCP server" section; openrouter-sast-harness Phase 12 checked off.

Express the deterministic scan stages as model-disabled processors carrying work in
named slots under a read/write allow-list validated on every lifecycle hook.
- slot_contract.py (zero-dep): SlotContractError, SlotContractMixin (reads_slots/
writes_slots/skip_model=True, validates reads pre-hook and writes post-hook),
SlotPipeline (runs stages in order, enforces the model-disabled invariant, emits
stage_start/stage_end lifecycle hooks). Preserves the ProcessorSpec.reads/writes
provenance discipline without forcing deterministic stages through HarnessX's agent
loop ("bridge, do not map").
- stage_processors.py: Preprocess/EntryPoint/Rank/QuickFindings/PolicyScoring/Score as
skip_model slot processors; run_quick_pipeline is byte-identical to the quick path.
host_under_harnessx is the lazy, capability-gated bridge that disables the model on
HarnessX's BeforeModelEvent.skip_model (proven against the real API when the extra
is present).
- 8.4 zero-dep guard hardened: now hermetic (subprocess) and covers the two new
modules; the module-level import scan flags only column-0 imports so the intended
lazy import inside host_under_harnessx is allowed.
The sync HarnessRuntime stays the top-level driver (design "stays through Phase 4");
these slot processors are the model-disabled representation, ready for Phase 5.

9.1 — end-to-end fallback parity: a requested-but-unavailable HarnessX standard
scan (models set, extra absent) produces byte-identical findings to the plain
deterministic path, differing only by the recorded hunter_pool/verify degradations;
quick mode is unaffected by the extra (identical findings present-or-absent, never a
degradation).
9.2 — per-slot serialization round-trip: StaticFinding / RankingScore / FileTarget /
VerificationResult / ScoreArtifact round-trip through JSON without loss, plus the real
findings.json reload path preserves nested slots (reachability evidence/conditions,
tags) rather than restoring them empty. Covers the current artifact-persistence model;
the HarnessX processor slot-contract variant stays deferred with task 6.3.

Add a [harnessx] config block so the agentic plane can be steered from
openultrasast.toml, and make the LLM provider selectable (the hunter and verifier
previously hardcoded AnthropicProvider).
- config.HarnessxConfig: provider ("anthropic"|"openai"|"litellm", default
anthropic), max_cost_usd (2.0), token_threshold (120000); parsed from [harnessx].
- harness_ext.build_provider: single lazy, capability-guarded provider factory.
The provider name is validated before any import, so an unknown choice fails with
a clear ValueError even when the extra is absent; each provider reads its own
standard key env var (openai -> OPENAI_API_KEY, anthropic -> ANTHROPIC_API_KEY).
- HxScanOrchestrator and verify_findings_dispatch take a provider and route through
build_provider; cli threads config.harnessx.{provider,max_cost_usd,token_threshold}
into both the hunter and the verifier.
- README: "Configuring the HarnessX agentic plane" section (install, models,
provider, budgets, fallback/degradation).
Test isolation: convert the "harnessx not in sys.modules" import-guards to a
hermetic subprocess fixture (tests/conftest.py assert_cold_of_harnessx) and
simulate extra-absent in the CLI dispatch tests, so the suite is deterministic
whether or not the optional extra is installed (it now is, locally). Verified the
OpenAI path constructs end-to-end (build_provider -> OpenAIProvider; orchestrator
-> Harness) with the budget threaded through.
137 passed, 3 skipped; ruff + mypy clean; detection gate PASS.

Expose the bounded, gated self-improvement loop as a first-class subcommand so it
can be steered from the command line / opencode.
- `ousast improve <manifest>` resolves the target from the benchmark manifest,
runs the loop to convergence, and writes accepted edits to the loop-owned ledger
at <target>/.openultrasast/calibration/rule_policy.json — exactly where `scan`
and `benchmark` read it, so a subsequent scan of that target automatically
picks up the improved ruleset (the loop closes end-to-end).
- Flags: --max-rounds, --recall-floor, --fp-ceiling, --ledger, --journal,
--ruleset-dir, and --dry-run (runs against a throwaway ledger, touches nothing).
- Per-round output: reason, recall/fp/score deltas, and the edits applied.
- tests/test_cli_improve.py: accept path writes the loop-owned ledger (noisy rule
auto-shadowed), --dry-run never touches it, missing manifest fails loudly.
- README: quickstart entry + a "Rule-level loop: ousast improve" subsection
documenting the bounded levers, hard acceptance gate, and the HarnessX MetaAgent
as the optional proposer over the same gated machinery.

Make the >=90% recall / <10% FP detection gate a first-class, score-independent
CI step with non-regression guards.
- openultrasast.gate: canonical corpus map + DetectionMetrics/DetectionGateVerdict,
evaluate_corpus/detection_gate (no score input — cannot be unblocked by score),
merge_gate (ANDs the hard detection gate with the advisory-first score gate),
within_tolerance, and a `python -m openultrasast.gate` entrypoint that exits
non-zero on a breach. Wired as an explicit step in both the GitHub and Dagger
pipelines.
- 8.1: pipeline tests prove a high/passing score cannot unblock a recall-breaching
change; the gate fails below 90% recall or at/above 10% FP.
- 8.2: tests/golden/detection_baseline.json + a byte-identical baseline test for
the default ruleset / empty ledger (44/47 = 93.62% recall, 0% FP).
- 8.3: within_tolerance band logic + a capability-gated HarnessX tolerance test.
- 8.4: zero-dependency guard — governance/scoring/benchmark planes never import
HarnessX (sys.modules check + module-scope import scan).
- test_detection_benchmarks now sources the corpus/aggregation from the gate module.

Stand up the deterministic self-improvement loop over the ruleset/policy
governance data. Zero-dependency and fully tested offline; detection gate intact.
- 7.1/7.2 bounded levers + validator (improve/validator.py): two levers (rule,
policy); typed edits make pattern-text and 0-5 severity changes structurally
impossible; EvolveValidator rejects bad status, unknown rule_ids (loop cannot add
rules), enabled->disabled jumps (shadow staging mandatory), unresolved CWEs, and
out-of-bounds K/MIN_SCORE, raising StrictValidationError.
- 7.3 novelty + replay + journal (improve/journal.py): a JSON round journal records
every edit/lever/outcome; reverted edits are blocked from re-proposal (novelty);
a replay smoke gate boots the candidate ruleset before re-benchmarking.
- 7.4 benchmark deltas -> rule_signals.json (recall side: miss; precision side: fp).
- 7.5 hard acceptance gate + byte-for-byte revert (improve/evolve.py): a round is
accepted only if recall >= 90% AND FP < 10% AND project score did not regress AND
no matched-finding regression; otherwise the ledger is never written (byte-for-byte
revert). run_round/run_improvement drive rounds to convergence.
- 7.6 auto-shadow precision-draggers (enabled rules with FPs -> shadow, never
delete), nominate coverage gaps via rule_signals, and keep the project score as the
reward separate from the recall/FP feasibility gate (the loop cannot raise the
score by shadowing rules that breach the gate — proven by the revert test).
Design note: the loop's safety machinery is deterministic and benchmark-driven
(the proposer is the per-rule signal); the LLM MetaAgent.evolve is the optional
richer proposer that plugs into this same validated/gated machinery when the
HarnessX extra is present (offline-untestable). This mirrors how DocuHarnessX
realizes self-improvement.
9 new tests (validator, proposer/signals, accept, byte-for-byte revert, convergence);
118 pass total, 2 construction smokes skip without the extra; ruff + mypy clean;
detection gate 93.6%/0% intact. Tasks 7.1-7.6 checked off.

Adopt HarnessX at the hunter loop and verifier, capability-gated so the default
zero-dependency scan is byte-identical and CI (no extra) exercises the fallback.
- 6.1/6.2 build_sast() (single, lazy HarnessX composition site in harness_ext.py,
mirrors DocuHarnessX make_docgen) + HxScanOrchestrator (hunter_harness.py): a
drop-in for run_hunter_pool that runs one bounded HarnessX agent task per ranked
target (ModelConfig(main=AnthropicProvider).agentic(build_sast()).run(BaseTask)),
parses findings from a JSON structured-output contract, returns the existing
HunterPoolResult, maps scan_id->session_id and emits per-target exit_reason/cost/
steps to the outer trace.
- 6.4 verify_judge.verify_findings_dispatch: a drop-in superset of
verification.verify_findings — structural verifier verbatim by default (rejects
unknown reachability), HarnessX llm-judge (build_judge_prompt/parse_judge_response)
when the extra + a verifier model are present; verdict mapped to VerificationResult
evidence-gated (plausible>=0.6 accepted; unsupported/refused rejected; infra
failure never auto-rejects).
- 6.5 cli capability gate (hx_hunter/hx_verify): selects HxScanOrchestrator /
judge only in standard mode with a configured model AND has_harnessx(); otherwise
falls back and records a {stage,reason:harnessx_extra_unavailable} degradation in
the manifest (new append-only write_manifest degradations kwarg). With no model
configured the manifest stays byte-identical.
- pyproject: mypy override ignore_missing_imports for harnessx.* (absent in the
type-check env).
Verified the HarnessX path constructs against the real extra in a throwaway venv
(build_sast -> HarnessConfig; orchestrator -> Harness; build_judge_prompt/
parse_judge_response/verdict mapping) — only the live agent.run()/provider.complete()
LLM calls are offline-untestable and stay gated. 109 tests pass (2 construction
smokes skip without the extra), ruff + mypy clean, detection gate 93.6%/0% intact.
Tasks 6.1/6.2/6.4/6.5 done; 6.3 (deterministic stages as HarnessX processors) deferred.

Wire HarnessX as an optional, SHA-pinned extra with a lazy capability guard,
keeping the core install zero-dependency.
- pyproject: add [project.optional-dependencies] harnessx pinned to commit
274c512 (Darwin-Agent/HarnessX). Core dependencies stays []. uv_build emits
`Requires-Dist: harnessx @ git+...@<sha> ; extra == 'harnessx'` +
`Provides-Extra: harnessx` (verified via uv build); release ships to GitHub
Releases, not PyPI, so the direct-reference is fine.
- harness_ext.py: the capability seam. has_harnessx() probes via find_spec
(never imports harnessx); require_harnessx() imports lazily on demand and
raises HarnessXUnavailableError with install guidance when absent. Every
Phase 3+ HarnessX path routes through here so heavy imports stay cold by default.
- uv.lock refreshed: the universal lock now resolves the harnessx tree (149 pkgs)
but `uv sync --group dev` installs only 57 — harnessx is NOT importable in the
default/CI venv (verified), so CI stays lean and never re-locks.
- Tests: core deps empty; the extra is a 40-hex SHA-pinned git URL; importing
openultrasast.cli does not import harnessx; has_harnessx probes without
importing; require_harnessx raises with guidance when absent.
98 tests pass; ruff + mypy clean; detection gate 93.6%/0% intact. Spec task 5
(5.1 + 5.2) checked off; next is task 6 (build_sast hunter sub-harness).

The dagger job failed pulling python:3.11-bookworm from Docker Hub with a 520
(transient auth/CDN outage) — the residual risk noted in the Phase 3 dependency
audit. The earlier hardening pre-pulled only the dagger engine image
(registry.dagger.io); the base-image pull happens inside the engine via
client.container().from_(...), which the host pre-pull cannot cover.
Wrap the whole dagger pipeline (_run_checks) in a 3-attempt retry that re-runs on
transient registry/pull markers (Docker Hub 5xx/429, oauth/authorize failures,
TransportQueryError, i/o timeout, connection reset, context deadline). Permanent
failures (lint/type/test) still fail immediately on the first attempt.

Run and record the HarnessX dependency dry-run audit and assess blueprint
alignment with the author's DocuHarnessX, to steer OpenUltraSAST's HarnessX
adoption from opencode/claude-code.
- dependency-audit.md: records the realized transitive graph (118 packages from
30 mandatory HarnessX deps). Key finding: every heavy backend (docker/e2b/
playwright/office-PDF) is lazily imported and the gateway is a separate dist, so
the tree is an install-time (not runtime) cost; ~55-60 packages are dead weight
for SAST. Decision: ACCEPT as the optional SHA-pinned extra openultrasast[harnessx]
(core stays zero-dep; lazy heavy imports; matches DocuHarnessX precedent), with a
fully-specified vendored lean subset as the triggered fallback and upstream
dependency-extras as the preferred long-term slimming path. Records the
security-tool residual risks (browser binary, docker socket, web server, CVE
surface) and their mitigations.
- blueprint-alignment.md: DocuHarnessX <-> OpenUltraSAST assessment. They share the
spine (one composition factory, model bound in CLI via ModelConfig.agentic,
content-neutral processors over typed slots, project-loaded domain/"ontology"
seam, fail-closed LLM-judge firewall, Kiro fresh-subagent steering). DocuHarnessX
realizes "self-improving multi-agent" via the firewall + claude-code/opencode
steering loop, NOT MetaAgent.evolve (Train is future there); OpenUltraSAST builds
the evolve loop on the same substrate. Three principled divergences (hybrid runtime
confining HarnessX to the hunter pool; evolve reward/feasibility split + ledger;
zero-dep core with opt-in extra) with reconciliation, plus a concrete Phase 3
blueprint mirroring DocuHarnessX.
Checks off spec task 5.1.

Complete Phase 2: make benchmark output drive per-rule improvement, wire the
loop-owned ledger, and turn a confirmed false positive into a score knob. Zero
new dependencies; detection stays byte-identical (recall 44/47 = 93.6%, FP 0%)
and the 90/10 gate holds.
- Per-rule attribution (4.1): BenchmarkMiss/BenchmarkFalsePositive carry rule_id;
BenchmarkMetrics.per_rule aggregates matched/missed/false_positives per rule.
- Recommendation delta (4.2): evaluate_benchmark emits RuleRecommendation
(keep/shadow/loosen) written to rule_policy_delta.json; the inert
next_improvement_candidate stub is now rule-aware ("rule:<id>" or
"language_hunter").
- Loop ledger (4.3): cli loads the ruleset with the rule_policy.json overlay
(empty -> byte-identical; an entry overlays a rule's status/floors at load);
read_rule_ledger/write_rule_ledger added for the evolve loop. A disabled rule
in the ledger no longer fires (covered by an integration test).
- FP -> reachability knob (4.4): a confirmed false-positive learning lowers a
finding's effective reachability multiplier in the score
(fp_reachability_overrides + scoring reachability_override) instead of deleting
the rule, so recall stays high while the score stops over-penalizing.
93 tests pass; ruff + mypy clean. Spec tasks 4.1-4.4 checked off — Phase 2
(Core: rules-as-data + benchmark signals) is complete. The loop-driven decision
to apply ledger flips remains the gated evolve loop (Phase 3/4).

Externalize detection rules to versioned TOML and remove rule-local severity, so
rules detect and the central CWE policy decides severity — fixing "rules too
influential / not centrally managed". Zero-dependency; detection is byte-identical
(benchmark recall 44/47 = 93.6%, FP 0% unchanged) and the 90/10 gate holds.
- RulesetStore (ruleset/store.py + ruleset/<lang>/rules.toml): PatternRule as data
(rule_id, title, languages, cwe, tags, pattern, status, min_evidence_level,
precision_estimate, version) with NO severity; load_ruleset (sorted, with
optional rule_policy.json ledger overlay) and a stdlib TOML write_ruleset. The
32 rules were generated from the prior PATTERN_RULES with a verified exact
round-trip (pattern/cwe/languages/tags/title).
- findings.py: drop the hardcoded PatternRule class + PATTERN_RULES tuple; load the
default ruleset from TOML; quick_scan_findings(root, targets, rankings, ruleset,
policy) resolves each finding's severity from policy via resolve_severity
(SEVERITY_LABEL maps 0-5 -> string) and tags findings with their rule status.
- Three-status volume control: StaticFinding gains status (default "enabled");
disabled rules never fire; shadow findings are partitioned out of the report and
score in the CLI (written to shadow_findings.json) — no shadow rules by default.
- Emission floors (RulesetConfig.min_emit_priority / min_emit_precision, default
0.0 = emit all) replace "every match is a finding".
- CLI loads the ruleset as a stage and uses it for the fail-loud policy check,
detection, hunter pool, and the score CWE map. Wheel ships the ruleset TOML.
85 tests pass; ruff + mypy clean. Spec tasks 3.1-3.4 checked off.

CI: the dagger job repeatedly failed (and once hung 10 min) pulling the engine
image from registry.dagger.io. Pin the dagger CLI to 0.21.7 (matching dagger-io
and the SDK's CLI_VERSION so the engine tag is deterministic), pre-pull
registry.dagger.io/engine:v0.21.7 with a dependency-free retry loop (5 attempts,
90s/pull, 20s backoff) so the action's `docker image inspect` finds it cached and
skips its own flaky pull, and add a 20-minute job timeout so a stalled pull can
no longer hang the run. The canonical `checks` job is unchanged.
Docs: add a "Project scores and central CWE policy" README section documenting
the implemented Phase 1 — central verycode CWE policy, policy-governed severity
(one CWE = one severity), the fail-loud invariant, the 0-100 project score and
two-condition advisory-first gate, the score.json/manifest artifacts, and the
CWE-120 -> CWE-121 remap.

Spec-driven plan to (1) adopt HarnessX (Darwin-Agent/HarnessX) directly where it
pays off — the LLM hunter loop, the LLM-judge verifier, and a meta-harness
self-improvement loop — and migrate scan flows onto it stage-by-stage; (2) make
detection rules versioned, centrally-governed data whose severity comes from a
vendored verycode CWE policy (CWE_Score.tsv) instead of the rule itself, fixing
"rules too influential / not centrally managed"; (3) adapt rules/policy inside
HarnessX's MetaAgent.evolve loop under bounded levers with replay/novelty/
validator gates; (4) make benchmarks actionable per-rule signals with a hard
accept gate and byte-for-byte revert; (5) compute a 0-100 verycode-style project
score with a two-condition CI gate.
Key decisions captured in research.md: HarnessX is an LLM-agent harness (not a
generic stage pipeline), so it is adopted only on the agentic plane behind an
optional SHA-pinned extra while the governance/scoring/benchmark planes stay
zero-dependency; the >=90% recall / <10% FP detection gate is a hard constraint
separate from the score reward and must hold at every phase; CWE-120 is unmapped
in verycode so C/C++ buffer rules remap to CWE-121 (severity 5).
Artifacts: spec.json (phase tasks-generated, approvals pending), requirements.md
(7 requirements, EARS), design.md (three-plane architecture), tasks.md (4
phases), research.md (D1-D9 decisions). Awaiting human approval per the kiro
3-phase gate; not yet implemented.

Close the HarnessX self-improving loop without an agent in the loop. Every scan
now feeds its verifier outcomes back into the next scan's ranking:
- New `calibrate` stage (after rank, before findings) loads a persistent ledger
of scoped false-positive learnings and demotes every previously-rejected scope
(`calibrate_rankings`), writing `calibration/applied_calibrations.json`.
- New `record_calibration` stage (after verify) converts this run's non-accepted
verifier outcomes into scoped `FalsePositiveLearning` records
(`learnings_from_verifications`) and merges them into
`.openultrasast/calibration/false_positive_learnings.json`, de-duplicated by
finding ID so a repeat rejection does not compound without bound.
- Lower the calibration floor (MIN_CALIBRATED_PRIORITY = 0.1) so accumulated
rejections can demote a scope below the natural ranking minimum.
Demotion is scoped and reversible: a rejection in one path never touches an
accepted finding in another, and priority is demoted rather than the finding
deleted so the audit trail explains every downgrade. First run is a no-op
(empty ledger), so existing single-run behavior is unchanged.
Adds tests/test_pipeline_calibration.py (two-run demotion, order-independent),
documents the realized loop in the README, and checks off the
standard_security_harness milestone in tasks.md.

candidate; and how the HarnessX self-improving cycle is realized. Maturity is

Add the Kiro-style agentic SDLC tooling used to drive this project: the
.opencode/skills/kiro-* skill set (discovery, spec init/requirements/design/
tasks, validation, implementation, review, steering), the .kiro/settings
templates, and AGENTS.md describing the workflow. Update the spec docs
(assessment/design/requirements/tasks) to current state.
Scope tests/test_opencode_skills.py to the project's own openultrasast-*
skills so the third-party kiro-* tooling (which uses a different frontmatter
convention) no longer breaks the frontmatter check.

CI runs `ruff format --check .` and `ruff check .` over the whole repo. The
benchmark fixtures are intentionally vulnerable, unformatted sample code (e.g.
a `% uid` SQL injection that ruff flags as UP031), and reformatting them would
shift the ground-truth line numbers the manifests depend on. Exclude
benchmarks/fixtures from ruff so lint/format only cover real project sources.
